Frequently asked questions

How does EarnSparky work?

EarnSparky is a dual-device application. On your Parent device, you choose the learning topic and set the duration and number of screen-time blocks. On the Child device, your child completes a short learning activity before each block.

Selected apps on the Child device are restricted. They unlock after each learning activity for the defined screen-time block.

On your Parent device, you receive information about their progress, along with practical suggestions for what they can improve and practise next.

What is a screen-time block?

A screen-time block is a period when all selected restricted apps on your child’s device are unlocked. You choose a block duration of 15, 30 or 45 minutes and decide how many blocks are available each day. For example, four 15-minute blocks give your child 60 minutes of daily screen time, with a learning activity before each block.

How are applications restricted?

App restrictions are set up when you pair your child’s device. EarnSparky uses Apple’s Screen Time controls to restrict the selected apps and unlock them during each screen-time block.

What insights do parents receive?

You can see your child’s recent learning activities and results, along with a summary of their recent practice. The summary includes practical suggestions for what to work on next and how you can help. Summaries are AI-generated and may contain mistakes.

Can my children share a device?

The simplest setup is one device per child, but children can also share a device and Learning Programs within your Family. On a shared Child device, they can switch between their profiles. Your Family manages whose turn it is and makes sure the correct profile is selected before each learning activity.

Which devices are supported?

EarnSparky uses the same app for Parent and Child modes, with the role chosen during setup. Parent mode currently supports iPhone and iPad only. Child mode supports iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Support for both modes on both iOS and Android is planned.
